Summer vacation has just started, and Orville and Wilbur Riot have already tried every hilarious prank they can come up with to break the boredom. Then their cousin arrives. The boys worry that summer will be ruined until they find out that she loves to do all the crazy things that they enjoy. The three head out to a D.C. museum to see Egyptian artifacts and suddenly it’s the best summer ever. Ages 7-10.

Senor, a business analyst, wanted to know how it is that Israel—a country of just over 7 million, only 60 years old, with no natural resources—produces more start-up companies than large, peaceful, and stable nations like Japan or the UK. He and Saul Singer, editorial editor of The Jerusalem Post, attribute Israel’s success to the social networks and leadership training afforded by the nation’s mandatory military service, and to an open immigration policy that continually restocks Israel’s population from people around the world. They note that the Jewish tradition of questioning also fosters openness and self-criticism. Publishers Weekly says this is a book “not just for business leaders and policy makers, but for anyone curious about contemporary Israeli culture.”
This is a ticketed event.
Tickets are $6 each or receive 2 free tickets with the purchase of the
book. Call 202-364-1919 for more information.

Michael Specter
Denialism (Penguin Press, $27.95)
An award-winning New Yorker writer on technology and global health, Specter asks us to think about our attitudes toward science. Do we still believe that it can solve all our problems, or do we see things like genetically modified foods, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals as contrary to nature and therefore dangerous? Specter argues that we can’t let rigid ideology prevent us from viewing science with a skeptical eye, balancing its limitations with its potential for improving the world.
