3/14/07 - We continue to work hard at improving, little by little. The gradual replacement of furniture has increased seating, and the new menu boards have made our menu items more accessible and our specials easier to understand. We hope you'll continue to come by and enjoy our selection of sandwiches, salads, and other foods. Try the new baklava, made from scratch by the grandmother of the owners of Heller's Bakery. We are beginning to feature live music almost every Saturday in conjunction with three local musicians' organizations, and will continue to have our open mic night every Friday. Come by to pick up a schedule of events, or come and participate yourself. Have a great week. 1/10/17 - Don't forget about our open mic nights every Friday—Sign-up for the evening's set starts at 7:30 p.m., and the show starts at 8. Great attendance has made this a very successful event, so come and share in an evening of music already enjoyed by many every week. Go to myspace.com/moderntimescoffeehouse for more information on all of our open mic events. 12/6/06 - This week, we'd like to feature a new product whose arrival we have anticipated immensely. On Tuesday we started selling our new travel mugs. The mugs feature both the Modern Times Coffeehouse and Politics & Prose Bookstore logos on black ceramic. The mugs are union made in the United States (no Chinese sweatshops for us!) and hold 14 ounces. They are truly handsome, distinctive mugs, and will sell for $14.99 each. Additionally, you get a free beverage with your purchase, and $.50 off any beverage every time you use it. We hope you'll come by and pick one up soon! 9/6/06 - Following the successful sales of bulk coffee, we will also begin to sell all of our teas in bulk by the ounce. Our tea, like our coffee, is entirely fair trade and organic, and comes from Serendipitea in Long Island, New York. We are very happy with all of our varieties of loose leaf black, green, and herbal teas, and hope you get a chance to pick some up for a delicious cup at home. And remember, our great tea filters are on sale in boxes of 50 as well. Have a great week, everyone. 8/23/06 - We’re pleased to announce that we’ve begun selling coffee by the pound. Bill Hays, with whom Javier worked roasting coffee years ago, provides coffee for us through his roasting business at Mountain View Coffee Roasters in Ruckersville, Va. We’re so happy with his product, which is entirely organic, fair trade, and shade grown, that we’re pleased to start offering it in bulk. And don’t forget, now that summer’s winding to a close, come and get your morning coffee from us when we open at 8 a.m. Please note that this is an hour earlier than the bookstore opens, and you must enter through the parking lot entrance of the building to enter the coffeehouse between 8 and 9 a.m. We look forward to seeing you in the morning, even if Adam doesn’t look forward to actually being awake that early. Have a super week. --Adam, Javier, and Ryan. 8/3/06 - The Politics and Prose coffeehouse is now opening at 8 a.m. to catch the going-to-work crowd. We hope that you saw the really nice story in last Wednesday’s Washington Post Food section about their new sandwiches. This just in from a happy customer: “I was in the coffee house the other day and asked for yogurt—no longer in small containers on display so I didn't readily see it. I was served a big, I mean big, bowl of very yummy yogurt (it was thick with a nice sharp twang) with bananas on top. It was refreshing and delicious and is now on my hit list of favorite afternoon snacks at P&P!” 7/05/06 - The coffeehouse had some exciting news this week. DCist.com posted information about Coup d'Etat Coffee Company's ownership of the coffeehouse, noting in particular the coffeehouse's new name and some background information on a couple of the principal owners. The post made mention of our great summer espresso shooter, the caffe shakerato. |
