About the Author

Charles Bukowsk is one of America's best-known contemporary writers of poetry and prose, and, many would claim, its most influential and imitated poet. He was born in 1920 in Andernach, Germany, to an American soldier father and a German mother, and brought to the United States at the age of three. He was raised in Los Angeles and lived there for fifty years. He published his first story in 1944 when he was twenty-four and began writing poetry at the age of thirty-five. He died in San Pedro, California, on March 9, 1994, at the age of seventy-three, shortly after completing his last novel, Pulp.

Born in Philadelphia, R. Crumb is the author of numerous comic works and one of the pioneers of underground comics. His books include Kafka, The Complete Crumb Comics (17 volumes), The R. Crumb Sketchbook (10 volumes), R. Crumb Draws the Blues, The Book of Mr. Natural, The Book of Genesis Illustrated by R. Crumb, and many more. He lives in the south of France with his wife, the artist Aline Kominsky-Crumb.

Robert Crumb was born in Philadelphia in 1943 and was encouraged by his older brother Charles to draw comics in childhood. He credits his mid- 60s LSD use with turning him to the underground style that made his fame, best illustrated in the comics Zap, Snatch, Big Ass, Weirdo, and Hup. He has released scores of books, including TASCHEN s Sex Obsessions (2007), and is the subject of the biographical film Crumb (1994). He lives in France with his wife, Aline Kominsky-Crumb.
