A February Song by John Guernsey

In John Guernsey’s novel he takes us back to the sixties through his main character, Austin Cowley. To bittersweet experiences set against the backdrop of D,C. jazz clubs, underaged drinking, acne, interracial love, Ocean City, Assateague Island, and an upbringing of class, privilege and liberal ideals. The story begins on a wintry night at Chevy Chase Circle in 1964 and continues on an emotionally bumpy and spiritual ride in and out of the fantastic and the real to the point where we are not sure which is which.  Through it all, we experience universal truths of adolescence with mystical twists and turns and are finally left hanging, wanting more.
