Politics and Prose 25th Anniversary

POLITICS AND PROSE TRAVELS

It’s a lot of fun to go places with the Politics and Prose crowd, whether it’s just four hours by bus to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater each spring, or five hours by plane to beautiful sunny Mexico each winter. In 2010 we are adding a return trip to Central Europe.

CENTRAL EUROPE
It all started 19 years ago when Carla wanted to see Central Europe after the fall of the Berlin Wall. She pasted together a tour with the help of journalists and professors, and with  28 other people, ranging in age from the early 30s to early 70s, they toured Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Hungary in 16 days.  We will celebrate the 20th anniversary of that trip next year by returning in September 2010 to all those countries (except Czechoslovakia where so many people go on their own). Our focus will be observing how these nations have fared since the collapse of the Iron Curtain.  What are the lasting effects, if any, of 55 years of separation from the rest of Europe? MEXICO
Each year we visit Mexico to learn more about our important neighbor to the south. Many of Mexico’s  issues of class and ethnic barriers are typical of those in southern America. We visit villages where Indian customs and crafts still flourish and, in Mexico City,  we get a taste of one of the great cities of the world. Our 2010 Mexico Trip is particularly designed by and for us: we’ll make A Ring Around the Mexico City to sample a mixture of important pre-Columbian architectural sites, exquisite Colonial cities, indigenous crafts, and we’ll take some time to relax at a resort hacienda, all within 150 miles of the capital city.
